We have a new addition to the Holiday household.

I had been considering getting the kids a pet. At first I thought about a fish, because who doesn't like to watch them glub glub around?

Then I considered a turtle. But it's not really anything you can "play with".

I landed on a cat. And around Mother's Day I had decided that we would go to a shelter to pick out our new family friend. Something in me told me to wait. And the next week, my dear friend reached out to me and she had rescued A BOX OF KITTENS (no. I didn't take the whole box).

I had picked out which one I liked the best, just from pictures. But then, I took Ezra with me over to the house to do a meet and greet and see how Ezra would even do being around a kitten. We sat one this gorgeous chair in her homemade speakeasy that had been taken over by four kittens and the mama. I immediately cued in on the one that I had my sites set on. He was ... feistier than I had thought. Orange, black and brown with little flecks of white and was wreaking havoc on her basement. The grey cat had successfully crawled inside of her shoes, butt in one shoe and head in the other. The black cat was being generally mischevious and then...from behind the blanket draped over the very chair we were sitting on pawed gently at our back the most precious little white and orange kitten.

My friend told me that his name was legs because of ...........how awkward he was ........... (uh....HELLO!!!!) . That was it. I was sold. Ezra was petting him, he just kept choosing us. So we chose him back.

I got home from her house and asked Ezra "what should we name the kitten?" and he paused for maybe 3 seconds total and goes "His name. Is. Rufus".

Well...Okay then!!!

We went to pick up "Rufus, the orange cat" and my friend told me that he really responded to "Legs" so maybe to interject that in occasionally while he got used to the change.

This poor cat, has had so many names since he's been here the last couple of weeks. Legs, Little Legs, Rufus, Martin, Marphus, Maroofis, Morpheus...I'm sure I'm missing a couple. But regardless of what this kitten's name is...or isnt...we absolutely struck out on the kitten lottery!

Welcome to the family, little guy. It's going to be a wild ride!

I miss me.

I was 16 when I had my first daughter. It was 4 days before my 17th birthday and I was IN LOVE. I was so excited to meet this tiny little baby, born almost two months early. She was everything I had e
